Emily Barrett is only 28 years old. Her doctor ordered bloodwork after she went in for an appointment due to vomiting bile. Her physician sent her to the ER as soon as her bloodwork results came in due to her numbers being off.
It was there that Emily was told that she has cancer of the liver which had already spread to both of her lungs. Emily has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Fibrolamellar Cancer, which is an extremely rare and very aggressive type of liver cancer that only affects approximately 200 people in the country each year.
$1,500. That is the copay amount that Emily is responsible to pay for chemotherapy drugs every two weeks. Emily has been on FMLA since August 16th and must pay for her insurance despite having no income. After three months, Emily will lose her insurance all together.
Medical bills are piling up, and we are trying to alleviate some of the financial burden for her and her family so they can concentrate on Emily’s treatment.
