Hi, My name is MaryRose and I am the godmother of EmilyRose.
EmilyRose – angelic, kindhearted and one of the most resilient people you will ever encounter.
Emily is a 19-year-old warrior that at the age of just 14 in December of 2017 was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ewing Sarcoma. Ewing Sarcoma is a rare type of cancer that occurs in the bones or soft tissue around the bones. Emily had it in her pelvis. She underwent surgery to remove it and had a hip replacement along with a new femur. From there she received intense rounds of chemotherapy and radiation. Throughout this, she experienced excruciating nerve pain, bacterial infections, sores in her mouth and esophagus and several hemoglobin transfusions, which caused her to be neutropenic. She lost all of her hair through chemo, yet she never lost hope! Emily NEVER complained and always had a positive outlook with a smile on her beautiful face. After all of this – she was cancer free. Or, so she thought!
Six years later, in March 2023, Emily had pain in her back. Given her history, Mom took her straight back to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for testing. A scan was done on her back, which detected a tumor on her lower spine. The doctors and staff recommended surgery be done immediately. A biopsy showed that once again, Emily has Ewing Sarcoma – this time on her spine. The doctors believe the cancer did not return, yet it was a residual effect from her previous diagnosis. Emily underwent surgery to remove the cancer. Her latest scan shows the cancer is gone, but she has to go through another distressing 12 rounds of chemotherapy to ensure that she is cancer free.
Before the chemo starts, Emily has to freeze her eggs, so that one day she can start a family of her own. Unfortunately, this is an expensive procedure and her insurance company does not cover the cost of it, or the yearly maintenance it requires to keep the eggs frozen. Emily would be nothing short of an amazing mother and would one day hope to fulfill her dream of having a family. She would also love to return to college to pursue her career in psychology. Emily is always the first one to help anyone in need, so we are asking if you can find it in your heart to donate anything you can to help make her future dreams of becoming a mother one day become reality. Any and every amount is greatly appreciated!
