One of my best friends recently suffered a major cardiac event due to sick sinus syndrome in which she almost lost her life. Emily recently underwent cardiac surgery for a pacemaker to ensure her heart will not stop, but her journey is not over. She still suffers from syncopal episodes (fainting), Hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (HEDS), Dysautonomia and Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) which has rendered her disabled. Her doctors have told her due to the severity and complexity of her disabilities she cannot work any longer. Managing these conditions and commuting to the Mayo Clinic for treatment have become her full-time job. Her priority is now staying alive, managing her conditions and trying to regain some independence.
What Emily Needs
Emily needs a highly trained skilled service dog (this is not an emotional support dog) to be with her at all times to:
1. Call 911 on a canine rescue phone when she falls or is unconscious
2. Retrieve a phone during emergencies
3. Provide Tactile Deep Pressure Therapy after a fall
4. Provide Balance and Stability Support
5. Carrying Groceries, Assist with Laundry amongst many other trainable tasks that cater to Emily’s disabilities.
How you can help Emily
As a single mother of two unable to work, Emily needs help raising the money to afford a service dog. Emily has exhausted her financial resources over the past year commuting to Mayo Clinic for treatment and paying for childcare and the cost of daily living. Please donate and/or share. Every dollar helps. Thank you for reading.
