Hello! My name is Emily and I am walking the equivalence of Mt Everest to raise money for Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy is a disability that affects movement and posture. In most cases, people diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy can’t or struggle to walk so I have taken this opportunity to challenge myself with an activity that nearly all of us take for granted.
My goal is to walk the equivalent height of Mt Everest above sea level, which is 8848m elevation. I live in Australia and am currently unable to travel to Mount Everest, so I have instead chosen a local bush walk with a steep incline which I will hike repetitively until I reach my goal. The trail I have selected is Sublime Point, located in the Illawarra Escarpment. Sublime Point has an elevation of 285m meaning I would hike Sublime Point 32 times to reach the equivalent of Mount Everest's summit (over 8848m). In order to make this a true challenge I have set a goal of 20 days to complete the 32 Sublime Point walks. This is equivalent to walking the Sublime track everyday for 8 days and then twice a day for the remaining 12 days. I will be starting the 20 days on the 27th of June and each walk will be tracked on an app called 'AllTrails' and posted below.
Every cent raised will go straight to the Cerebral Palsy Alliance, where it will be used to purchase Telepractice Support Kits to enable children and adults living with Cerebral Palsy immediate access to therapy via video.
