I’m humbly asking for any help that anyone is able to give us while we put all our efforts into helping our 14 year old daughter Emily battle an eating disorder and major mental health struggles. Asking for help can be one of the hardest things and I’m struggling to do it, but her therapist pointed out that we should approach this disease the same way we would if our child had cancer. There is very little support for those with eating disorders, and up until recently I was very ignorant on this illness that has devastating mental and physical effects. To watch my child suffering from this is the hardest thing I’ve ever experienced. I now spend almost every waking moment supporting her through nutrition (nutrient dense meals/snacks every 2-3 hours), making sure she is safe, providing emotional support and helping to calm her when she has meltdowns, supervising her 24/7. Unfortunately, health insurance does not cover any of the specialist appointments or therapy that she needs, and this has been a huge financial struggle. We are seeking an inpatient facility for her but haven’t been able to find a good treatment facility that works with her insurance. In addition, I’m unable to work because I need to provide her 24/7 support, which has also greatly affected my own mental health but I have been unable to seek therapy due to the lack of finances and ability to leave. We also have three younger boys at home. Any financial support in the form of monetary donations or restaurant/grocery store gift cards (Chipotle, Tropical Smoothie, Panera, Domino’s, Little Caesar’s, Dunkin Donuts, The Bowl, etc Trader Joe’s, Publix, Whole Foods) would help us immensely. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and prayers for our daughter as we support her fight against this disease. As many of you know, she lost her Daddy 6 years ago to the horrible disease of addiction, and it has had a devastating impact on her.
