I have never done this before and I try to keep most of my personal life semi private. However, my sister Emily was just diagnosed with breast cancer.
Doctors have discovered three different types of cancer in her boobies and she will be undergoing a double mastectomy. We are waiting for the other pathology to come back before we know about radiation and chemo.
Emily will not be able to work during this time.. and not all of her treatments will be covered by insurance. Additionally, she will need extra childcare help for her and her wife Annie’s 5 year old twins, Owen and Graham. Thus why I felt the need to make this page. Anything you could possibly donate would be massively appreciated.
Emily is one of the greatest humans I know and has dedicated her life to helping others. It would mean the world if we could give back an ounce what she has given.
A little bit about Queen Emily -
Emily taught first and second grade in East Harlem, NYC for 8 years. She specialized in educating students with the educational designation of Autism or Emotional Disturbance within an inclusion classroom setting. Emily is featured in Daniel Goleman's book Focus: The Hidden Driver of Excellence, where her school and classroom implementation of mindfulness is highlighted.
Emily now lives in Austin, TX where she is currently a social and emotional learning specialist (SEL) at Austin ISD.
In addition to being a badass educator, Emily is also a mother of 5 year old twins, Owen and Graham, and married to the love of her life Annie Hoaldridge - Dopkins who is also an educator.
