On April 22, 2018, my daughter Emily Meola was in an ATV accident and severe injured her right hand. She sustained a horrific crushing injury and partial de gloving of her hand. She has had 2 surgeries so far with many more to come. Surgeons are saying that her hand will be permanently disabled. Emily works currently as a certified nurses aide and had plans in beginning LPN school in the fall. All that has changed now. She has a long way to go and probably years of occupational therapy. She currently has insurance but I am sure that will end soon not being able to work. We have never asked for help like this before. I wish that I could help her but last year my husband was diagnosed with cancer and those bills take up what little money we had. I just don't know what else we can do for her. Any support that you could donate will be for medical bills. I have to mention that during her accident she was wearing her helmet and riding gloves. I also ask that everyone spread the news to wear and use safety equipment when riding these vehicles because anything can happen. Emily's whole life was changed in a second. Her outcome would be much worse if she didn't have safety equipment. I thank The lord that we still have her.
Update 4/26/18
Emily is on her 3rd surgery since Sunday. Still in a lot of pain from the crushing and degloving of her dominant hand. She will continue to go back to surgery to have the hand irrigated and debrided. Her pinky finger is in jeopardy and the doctors are waiting to see if the skin that was degloved will stay alive. She has a long long road ahead with many expenses just to do follow up care after leaving the hospital. Any donation no matter how small is a big help. God bless you all. I will keep you updated.

Emily had her fifth surgery today. Her pinky finger is not viable and will have to be removed at some point. Her pain is horrid. She is suffering so much that she is afraid to go back to the OR for the future surgeries. No morphine or dilaudid in hospital due to nation wide shortage, so they say. Trauma surgeons are trying to save her hand. I was informed today that she has to pay her copay at work to keep her medical insurance. After the hospital all the co pays for doctors visit and occupational therapy and prosthetics will begin. On state disability, whenever that will begin, only pays 60% of what ever you make. She was a certified nurses aide at a local nursing and rehab center so you can imagine how that pays. Please help with what ever you can. Every dollar adds up. Please continue to keep Emily in your prayers.
