I am making this page on behalf of my lovely friends Emily and James, as I know despite everything hard they are going through and have already been through, they are so kind and selfless that they wouldn’t want to ask anything of others themselves.

Having met Emily through having endometriosis myself, we always say this is a bittersweet thing as I know first hand the pain and battles that come with our chronic illness, however we have been lucky enough to find each other and become close friends through having this!

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, yet there is still little known about it and the funding and support is limited. The harsh reality is that statistically the average diagnosis takes 8 years. Despite a common assumption, endometriosis is not just a “bad period”, to name a few symptoms: chronic pelvic pain at any time, nausea, fatigue, painful periods and infertility are among these.

Emily is 31 and has had 3 major surgeries for her stage 4 endometriosis within the last 3 years. This is in addition to countless medical appointments, scans, tests and a biopsy, all of which began back in 2017 when Emily and James sadly had a miscarriage. Unfortunately for Emily, within this time frame and the hurdles of COVID and the NHS waiting lists, the endometriosis has spread to Emily’s bowel, bladder, ovaries and fallopian tubes, sadly affecting her reproductive organs and this has had a massive impact on Emily & James’ life. Also in this time Emily’s AMH level, which is your ovarian reserve, has dramatically and rapidly reduced to 2.1 (the typical level for Emily’s age range can be anything up to late the 40s). This now means they no longer qualify for NHS IVF funding, which is what they’ve been working towards for the last 3 years, and is understandably devastating.
