Emily Grumbine’s Double Lung and Liver Transplant

My beautiful sister-in-law Emily is about to undergo a very rare Double Lung and Liver transplant in Boston MA. At 3 days old Emily was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. For the last 45 years she has fiercely fought this disease. I’ve known her for about 25 years and when I tell you this woman is my literal hero I’m not exaggerating! She has endured hospital stays, countless Dr appointments and tests, painful procedures, breathing treatments, oral medications and IVs, PICC lines, Insulin shots, and being tethered to oxygen machines. A lot of these things she must do on a daily basis. I’ve never seen someone work so hard and be so dedicated to maintaining their health. Even when her lung function dipped to 25% in December, she was still exercising to keep her lungs and body strong, all the while being attached to an oxygen tank. The time has come however that she now needs a double Lung and Liver transplant. Emily and her husband Jim (my brother) have spent years raising money and awareness for CF research and advocating for new CF medications. Now after years of helping others they could use support. The actual transplant is just the start of a very lengthy and demanding recovery. They will need to get an apartment very close to the hospital in Boston for several months for follow up care, physical therapy and constant monitoring. Apartments in the middle of Boston are astronomical! Parking at the hospital will be hundreds a month, plus there will be medication costs, and fuel costs for traveling back and forth to their home to care for their daughter. She is required to have two caregivers when she is released from the hospital, so I’m sure there will be many additional costs that I can’t even imagine. We humbly ask for your support as this family we love so much undergoes this transplant process. If you’re unable to donate, we would covet your prayers and the sharing of this GoFundMe would really help. We are all so excited that she’s getting this transplant opportunity and want to get Emily back to health and back home with her daughter and her whole family as soon as possible.
