Update: March 13, 2026:
I wanted to give you all another update.
Thank you again for the incredible love, prayers, and support you’ve shown Emily and our family. It truly means more than we can ever express.
Emily is still fighting pneumonia, but she is on the right antibiotics and the doctors are continuing to treat it aggressively.
In the next couple of days, the medical team is planning a tracheotomy once her lungs can tolerate it. This is the next step in helping Emily move toward breathing on her own and getting off the ventilator It should also make her more comfortable while she continues to heal.
The most encouraging news is that Emily has started responding to commands. When doctors ask her to squeeze a hand or wiggle her toes, she’s beginning to do it. Seeing those responses has been an emotional and hopeful moment for all of us.
We know there is still a long road ahead and many unknowns, but we are holding onto every small step forward.
Thank you for continuing to keep Emily in your thoughts and prayers. Your support has carried our family through some incredibly difficult days.
With love,
Haley
Update: March 9, 2026:
I wanted to share a brief update on Emily.
Emily remains heavily sedated and on a ventilator so her brain has the best chance to rest and the swelling can continue to come down. Right now the doctors’ next goal is for her to begin breathing on her own. At this point she is still only responding to pain and not yet following commands. I continue to pray that as the swelling decreases, we will start to see more responsiveness.
There are still so many unknowns right now, which is why updates have been sparse. Please know that every message, prayer, and act of kindness has meant so much to me and to our entire family during this incredibly difficult time.
Thank you for continuing to keep Emily in your thoughts and prayers. The love and support surrounding her has been truly overwhelming, and I am deeply grateful for all of you.
Emily’s Story
My womb mate — my twin sister Emily — is fighting for her life right now.
Emily suffered a catastrophic fall that caused a brain bleed. She was rushed into emergency surgery where doctors had to remove part of her skull to relieve pressure on her brain.
She remains unconscious and intubated at WakeMed while her body fights to heal. The next 72 hours are critical as doctors monitor brain swelling and wait to see how she responds to treatment. We are taking this hour by hour, praying for signs of strength.
Nothing prepares you for seeing your twin in a hospital bed, but I’m holding onto hope with everything I have.
If you know Emily, you know her spirit is larger than life. She fills a room without trying. She laughs loudly, loves deeply, and makes people feel like they matter. She is the friendly face at Southline Brewery, pouring your beer with genuine kindness and Southern hospitality. She doesn’t just serve drinks — she makes people feel welcome, remembered, and cared for.
Emily does not have medical insurance. The emergency surgery, ICU care, specialists, medications, and what will likely be a long road to recovery will bring overwhelming medical expenses.
I’m asking for help so our family can focus on being by her side and supporting her healing — not living in fear of how we will afford her care.
If you’re able to donate, any amount makes a difference. If you can’t, please share this page and keep Emily in your prayers during these critical days.
She has shown up for so many people. Please help us show up for her.
With love,
Haley
