To all those touched by Emily Cox-
What started out Thursday morning as a minor outpatient surgery, resulted in Emily's blood pressure collapsing. She was rushed to the ICU where a team of 8 doctors stabilized her.
48 hours later- here we are-
This is the latest update on her status, sent to me earlier today, Saturday May 18th.
We had a new vascular doc be brutally honest today. Which I sadly appreciate. “Emily has a very long, hard recovery. She’s going to be here for several weeks minimum and she is very sick” sigh
She is not blowing off CO2 well and won’t be extubated today. The nephrologist said unless Emi surprises us (which we know can happen) the dialysis looks to be ongoing “indefinitely.”
She’s going for surgery soon to clean out fasciotomy incisions and determine how much tissue can be saved. No amputation today but they will have a better prognosis after surgery.
All of this is overwhelming and not as positive as I’d hope for. HOWEVER...... she opened her eyes today and mouthed “what happened?” She is cognitively OK!! we washed her hair and she smiled. We played the Hamilton soundtrack on her pillow and she opened her eyes.
With the long battle ahead, this family will need anything you can do to help.
LOVE to you all.
