Monday August 3rd I got a phone call that no one wants to receive. Emilio Alderete's good friend Karen called the lab to tell me that Emilio had been in a motorcycle accident. He was riding along a highway up by Kremling CO and hit a patch of gravel coming out of a turn Sunday afternoon. He lost control of the bike and went off the road, heading for a 5-6 foot drop into a ditch. He was thrown from the bike and landed on his spine, injuring his C3 and C4 vertebrae. Two girls were driving behind him and called 911 right away. Emilio was taken via helicopter to Denver Health where he was rushed into a 7 hour surgery. He has gotten amazing care from amazing staff in their ICU, and has since been moved to a less critical unit to continue his recovery. He is able to move his arms and hands and shows everyone who comes to see him, however, he still has not recovered feeling or movement below that. I am calling out to all of his past and present coworkers at Rose Medical Center, friends, family and all who know him, to help me raise money for medical expenses that are going to start coming in. Emilio has worked at Rose for 41 years and stood by us while soldiered through COVID this year. Emilio is an artist, guitar player, avid motorcycle rider, a healthcare professional and has a deep love for God. Every day he spends his breaks at work in the chapel at Rose reading his Bible with a cup of coffee. He is the kindest and most genuine man I've ever had the pleasure to call my friend, and he continues to tell us that God is with him and continues to be by his side. We all have a special place in our hearts for Emilio, and he needs us right now. We are #EMILIOSTRONG and we will be his army of angels, steadfast and ready to help in whatever way we can.
