Emiliano Needs You: ICU and Surgery Costs

Hello, my name is Daniel, and I’m writing this with a heavy but hopeful heart. Emiliano was born this March with a heart defect, low birth weight, and severe laryngomalacia. From his birth, he was in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for approximately three weeks. A week after his discharge, he was readmitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and transported via ambulance to Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center for concerns that he may undergo cardiac arrest. This hospital stay was another three weeks. On May 22nd, Emiliano underwent emergency surgery to correct his trachea, minimize the effects of the laryngomalacia, and the surgery was successful.

This experience has been the most terrifying and emotional time of our lives. While we are grateful for the incredible doctors and nurses helping Emiliano heal, we are now facing overwhelming medical bills.

Hola, mi nombre es Daniel, y escribo esto con el corazón pesado pero lleno de esperanza. Emiliano nació este marzo con un defecto cardíaco, bajo peso al nacer y laringomalacia severa. Desde su nacimiento, estuvo en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales (UCIN) durante aproximadamente tres semanas. Una semana después de su alta, fue readmitido en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos y trasladado en ambulancia al Centro Médico Kaiser Permanente de Los Ángeles por preocupaciones de que pudiera sufrir un paro cardíaco. Esta hospitalización duró otras tres semanas. El 22 de mayo, Emiliano fue sometido a una cirugía de emergencia para corregir su tráquea, minimizar los efectos de la laringomalacia, y la cirugía fue un éxito.

Esta experiencia ha sido el momento más aterrador y emocional de nuestras vidas. Aunque estamos profundamente agradecidos por los increíbles médicos y enfermeros que están ayudando a Emiliano a sanar, ahora enfrentamos facturas médicas abrumadoras.
