Emilia Tilson Memorial Fund

On February 9, 2022 Emilia passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side, after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. Emilia was a loving mom, wife, daughter, sister, cousin, aunt and friend. She has left behind her daughter Josephine, her three sons, Carl, Gus and Theo, her loving husband Ryan, as well as her dog Brodie and a hen house of chickens. Emilia celebrated her 40th birthday this past year, and was looking forward to renewing her wedding vows in 2022 with Ryan, on their 20th wedding anniversary.

 

Emilia was a midwife practicing with the Midwives of Headwater Hills. In her career, Emilia undoubtedly made a big impact on the lives of many in the community and provided a steady stream of kids into the Ride with Ryan bike program.

 

With cycling being such a big part of Tilson De Groote family life, Emilia was known as the family Directeur Sportif and was the best in the business. Never one to sit still, Emilia encouraged her kids to be as active as she was. She was the kind of mother who let her kids get muddy and take risks. She didn't believe in band-aids. She was the Mother of Dragons.

 

Tough as nails, Emilia marched to the beat of her own drum. She was very patient, humble, genuine, opinionated, stubborn and an avid rule breaker. She loved Mexican bands and margaritas, the beach and the mountains equally, and always had her next vacation planned with a jam packed itinerary.

 

Many have asked how they can help at this impossible time. We have started this Go Fund Me page as a response to the outpouring of love and support. Emilia was the primary earner in the family, and all funds will go directly to Ryan, to support him and the kids moving forward. For non-monetary donations – Emilia was an advocate for blood donation, and she relied on the generosity of other’s blood donations in her final days. If you are able, please give blood.
