*Newest Update on Emilia* June 23
After several conversations between doctors and specialists, Emilia will be travelling to Kenya to have her surgery in July at Kijabi Mission hospital. Her family and her employer have been able to raise some funds, and my goal makes up the difference. Thank you so much for those who have contributed, and if you have been thinking about it, please consider it now.
I am an ICU RN from Canada. I spent a month volunteering at ECWA Hospital in Egbe, Nigeria. While I was there, I cared a patient named Emilia, a Nigerian, working as a Chinese translator at a Chinese owned mine. She was a secondary victim in a kidnapping attempt, who was shot in the face at close range. She has no lower mandible or dentition. When I arrived she had already had reconstruction surgeries. On returning to Canada, I have stayed in contact with her, and we communicate every few days. She has a place in my heart.
She needs 3 further surgeries for reconstruction, in Kenya. I am raising funds to help pay for this. It is estimated at 10,000$ US. Go fund me does not transfer funds to Nigeria, so the hospital has asked me to send a lump sum, once fundraising is achieved. Thank you for consideration, for your compassion, and for taking action to see that this event does not need to define Emilia's life.
