Emi's Knee Implant Disaster

Donation protected
CRISIS: a life-threatening infection on her right knee replacement

Emi Magaloni, our up-to-now unstoppable mother, will arrive tonight by car at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. She and her partner Bruce Wilson are making this long car trip starting out from San Antonio, Texas to beat what has turned into nearly two years of pain and suffering after a common knee replacement surgery.

Emi underwent two complete knee replacements and four unexplained knee dislocations, with an infected wound at the site of the first surgery: the wound has never completely closed
due to rare bacteria that is resistant to nearly all antibiotics.

A Last Chance for Emi

Worse still, the infection is now rapidly moving up her leg.

A team of the Mayo Clinic surgeons, medical personnel, and infection doctors using cutting-edge research offer a realistic path to saving Emi's life.

Sadly, this ordeal will leave our beloved mother and grandmother with an above-the-knee amputation, even while having to fight the infection.

But the Mayo Clinic thinks she has a good shot at surviving--so we are in this fight.

This GoFundMe appeal will support Emi on her long road to recovery!

BUDGET for the MAYO CLINIC TREATMENT

If Emi responds to these efforts, she will receive treatment to battle the infection and will undergo months of intensive physical and occupational therapy to regain her health and mobility.
We are a modest, hard-working family, and we need your help to cover the expenses.

During her months of treatment and therapy, Emi will be living in Medical Lodging for Mayo Clinic patients ( https://www.shnrochertermn.com/). This licensed medical lodging, although cheaper than a standard hotel room, costs 1770 dollars a month.

Emi will undergo extensive rehabilitation as she learns how to use a prosthetic leg.
According to the Mayo clinic, she will need to stay for at least 6 months in Rochester.

Her retirement will cover her mortgage in San Antonio and most of her medications--for a time.
She should expect thousands of out of pocket expenses for her medications.

THE FUNDING GOAL

Will you help us with our initial goal of $15,000 to help cover living and medical expenses in Rochester?

Any contribution toward our funding goal will help Emi recover and return to her family, friends, and community.

THANK YOU for your donation.

If you want to know more about Emi, read on!
Let us introduce ourselves:
While her family and friends know her as Emi, her name is Emigdia Ramos Magaloni.

She is the doting grandmother of seven rambunctious grandchildren she shares with her partner Bruce--they love her so much!
We invite you to watch the video below to see Emi in action as a super grandma.

Emi's adult children and their partners are: Sergio Ignacio Magaloni  & Kerrie Smith;  Fabian & Noreen Magaloni; Mari-Esther Magaloni & Michael Bossier;  Eduardo and Wanira Magaloni.

With your generosity, our best efforts, prayers, and with the help of the amazing doctors and medical staff of the Mayo clinic, we are optimistic about the possibility of funding Emi's medical Hail Mary!

We will give you any details that you need in order to make your short or long-term donation possible:  Just contact us here at GoFundMe.

A PERSONAL COMMITMENT

We WILL pray for anyone that needs it and asks us to!
We will light candles in church and give thanks for your presence in this campaign.
We will honor your generosity by passing it forward to others in need.

A Last Word:
SOCIAL MEDIA IS ESSENTIAL

We would deeply appreciate any help from those of you who have friends on social media!

From the 80s to the mid-90s, the Beginnings Program at the Med Center's Methodist Hospital featured Emi and her teachers for childbirth, breastfeeding, and parenting classes.
They lovingly helped thousands of mothers and fathers quickly learn how to start a lifelong journey with their new baby.

Childbirth classes still benefit the families of the local Methodist Hospital System, a wonderful legacy which helps keep strong the heart of our community: our families.

We know of no other way to contact the families that Emi helped serve except through your help--and the help of your friend's friends in social media: Do share our appeal if you think it might help!

Forever grateful, we humbly thank you for any gift, and for sharing your time.
