Emery's Special Heart

Hello, my name is Julia Jensen. I am writing this in regard to my nine-month-old grandson, Emery Corral. At around four months old, Emery contracted a virus he was unable to shake. At first, it was thought to be baby asthma, however, after two hospitalizations, follow-ups with Pulmonology, GI, his Pediatrician, and an echocardiogram, it was discovered Emery was born with Atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD), also known as atrioventricular canal (AV canal) defect.

After this was discovered, Emery was hospitalized and started on an NG tube feeding and lasix as he is in Congestive Heart Failure and will require open-heart surgery. Unfortunately, Emery's condition will require multiple open-heart surgeries which will be performed in Milwaukee. The surgery is planned for the week after the 4th of July as long as he continues to gain weight in order to bulk up for the surgery. There are one of two procedures they will do, depending on the results of the 3D Echocardiogram. Both procedures are high-risk.

Emery's parents are both self-employed. His mom, my daughter, Alexis, has decided to quit her business in order to care for him. His father is working long hours to cover the bills but wants to spend time with his son. This has been a lot of stress on both parents. We are looking for help not only for bills but also for traveling to and from Milwaukee. If you are unable to donate, we understand, but please send positive thoughts and prayers our way as we could really use them right now.

Emery is a happy boy who has no idea there is anything wrong with him. He loves his parents and everyone around him. Thank you.
