Emery Allen fighting for her life

Hi, my name is Chelsea Hurst I am Emery’s aunt. Leading into Labor Day weekend, Emery was feeling unwell. She had a low grade fever, sore throat, and congestion. She missed a few days of school and felt ready to return to school on Tuesday Sept 5th.

About two hours into school, Emery threw up, and as Brett and Katie were checking her out, they realized she was non-responsive (10am AZ time). Katie and Emery took an ambulance to Banner Desert Medical Center and she has been admitted into the Pediatric ICU

Upon arrival, the doctors intubated and sedated her. They have done a brain MRI, EEG, CT scan, spinal tap, PIC line into her jugular, and about a million blood and urine tests to try to figure out what happened. They are still unsure.

She is on a bunch of medicines to try to help her. One of her lungs collapsed and responded well to treatment.

On Wednesday afternoon (Sept 6th) they cut off her sedation. She should have been fully awake within 15 minutes. After 6 hours she was still unresponsive. A couple hand squeezes, and one eye opening, but that's all. We should have seen a lot more from her. Not sure what that means but it is not good.

Long-term, Emery is looking at occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, literally all the therapies. With this in mind we have raised our goal because she’s looking at months of rehab and unknown amount of time in the ICU. Full recovery is possible, we believe in the power of prayer so please keep her in your prayers.
