Hello,
My name is Chris Hamer and I've been a working artist for the past 17 years. I've experienced the highs and lows that come with working for yourself and choosing the path of an artist. I know the troubles we face as artists with getting places to show the art we pour ourselves in too and the heartache of wanting to be able to follow our dreams. I would love to be able to offer something new and different to the art world besides what I create, I want to offer a safe space for people who create art and have a space for the like-minded artist to showcase and have a place to grow from.
I envision a safe place for all kinds of art to co-exist, and for people to come to discuss art.
Ever since I was a kid, comic books have given me so much. I learned to create art by reading comic books. Comic books are one of the most challenging forms of art. I have worked in comic stores and created comic books, both independently and with a publisher. Bought and sold comic books for decades. My love to help people find new stories to read and books to collect and just introduce new folks to the world of comic books is something I once believed was only a dream.
In till...
Last year I made my first leap into owning a comic book store ( a dream of mine since I was a teenager) by opening a small booth in an Antique store, within one year, I have grown that business to the point where It no longer makes sense just being a booth in an antique store. It's time to open a stand-alone business. To spread my proverbial wings and fly.
When I began this journey into opening such a place as a comic book store / Art Gallery, I found that very few places like this exist? Is it because no one wants to open such a place? Is it because the community has not thought of it? The reason is not important, what's important is I'm thinking of it and have made many of the necessary steps to begin this adventure I'm calling the URBNPOP comic company and art Gallery.
I made my home in Acworth Ga this past year with my family, Acworth has one of the coolest downtown areas and I have found a place in the downtown area that is perfect for such a business. Having the support of my family means the world, but emotional and physical support is not enough to open a business alone. Here is where you come in, I'm asking for $2K which is the bare minimum to get the doors open, Could I use more, of course, but I'm not one to ask for help often. So I'm starting with what I need to get the keys to the place open with what I have already.
If I get the $2K the doors will be open, the lights will be on and I can start moving things in. From there my drive and determination will carry me to the next few steps. If I was to exceed the asking funds, more fixtures and some extras can be added.
Thank you for reading this far and for everything you guys have done for me to continue my dreams . Thank you.
