My name is Ada. I’m a Black trans makeup artist living with another Black trans woman.
- We made this fundraiser last year in July 2020 to escape extremely violent and hazardous living conditions
- We raised enough funding to successfully relocate to an apartment in Ridgewood where we stayed for 6 months with other roommates who had lived on the property for 4 years
- Unfortunately over time the landlord of the property became persistent in asking everyone in the unit to leave, citing false complaints of tenants seeing “strangers” throughout the property, in addition to a constant leak in our bathroom that could not be fixed unless there were significant renovations done to the pipes on our side of the building, that caused damages to the tenants unit underneath us.
- We were forced, yet again, to relocate the second week of January 2021 to an Airbnb.
Currently we are safe, but we have been impacted financially and mentally. Parts of our saving have been depleted, as we had to extend our rent budget in order to secure the new location in such a short amount of time, and we had to cover moving costs and storage unit rental costs.
We are so thankful to those that have taken time to share and bless us with donations since the start of this fundraiser. We are very close to our goal, and it would be a great relief to be able to keep our new location secured until we are able to collect the necessary document we need for new units. Please, continue to and support, and I hope all of you stay safe and warm this winter.
