Hi, I’m Nick, I’m a queer disabled uni student whose health has gone massively downhill in the past year.
I faint often, experience chronic pain, frequent dislocations and chronic fatigue. This has left me mostly housebound, as leaving the house uses up too much energy and causes too much pain. I leave the house for doctors appointments and not a lot else.
Currently I use a cane, but it only helps marginally and will not be enough to get me through university. I almost failed last year due to health issues, I can’t risk that again. I’m so incredibly passionate about my studies in astrophysics, it’s my special interest and I enjoy it so much, I really want to be able to attend my lectures and hopefully have a career in the subject.
The NHS won’t give me a wheelchair fund as my symptoms are not severe enough in their eyes, I don’t have contact with my family, and the very little work that I am able to do funds my daily living.
I’ve been fitted for a wheelchair and the cheapest one that will work for me without causing further issues is £1600. I don’t expect to raise all of that, but any amount helps and I am so incredibly grateful to anyone who can offer anything, even just a share.
