My name is Dom, and I am writing this completely numb, shaking, and with a shattered heart. I never in a million years thought I would be creating this page. I thought my family was already at rock bottom, but the floor just completely fell out from under us. My absolute worst nightmare has come true, and I am begging for a miracle.

​The Nightmare We Are Living Right Now

Late last night, while driving to a local truck stop just to find a safe place to park and sleep, the engine in my van completely blew. Just like that, everything was gone. I don't know how or why it happened—I just had the oil changed—but the reality is devastating. I do not have the thousands of dollars it costs to replace a blown engine, nor the funds to keep it insured.

​The van is totaled. It was our only shelter, our only safety, and the only roof we had over our heads. We are back to absolute square zero.

​Right now, it is just me and my two dogs, Bowser and Oreo, facing the terrifying reality of being completely exposed on the streets of South Carolina. We have no doors to lock. We have no air conditioning to hide from the brutal heat. We are completely defenseless on the concrete.

​Why We Cannot Survive This Without Help

I am incredibly down right now. I had to scramble to squeeze the few bags of belongings we have left into my family's place, but we absolutely cannot stay there. There is no room for my dogs, and we cannot be a burden.

​I desperately want to work, but my hands are completely tied. I am currently stuck in the agonizingly slow process of waiting for Medicaid approval so I can get the professional medical help and official diagnosis I need to survive and function. I tried doing gig work—I poured my soul into DoorDash and UberEats and had perfect ratings—but customers lied to get free food, and the platforms permanently deactivated my accounts. My only way to make an income was stolen by strangers' dishonesty.

​Local resources have completely failed us. The food banks here hand out frozen, raw food that I cannot cook, and they do not provide dog food. There are absolutely no shelters in this area that will allow me to bring my dogs inside.

​Please know this: I will absolutely never let anyone foster, rescue, or babysit my dogs. Bowser and Oreo are my entire world. We survived a horrific trauma in the past with a "trusted place," and I will never let them out of my sight again. They are the only things keeping my heart beating right now.
