Emergency Vet Visit for Kaikaina

Donation protected
We brought our furbaby, 1-year-old Kaikaina in to the vet when we noticed a sudden lack of appetite and energy. Our vet did some bloodwork and determined that she was severely anemic, but was unable to diagnose why. Kaikaina needed to be rushed to the Emergency clinic for a blood transfusion and further testing. The vet there told us that her anemia could be caused by a disease transmitted by a flea (best case) or a bone marrow disease (worst case.) He told us that the treatment would be costly, and the outcome may not be good. She would need bloodwork, x-rays, an ultrasound, medication, a blood transfusion, and more. For my husband, Nick and I it was a tough choice to pay for the treatment, not knowing if our Kaikaina would even pull through. We have our first child, a baby girl, due in July.
But we love our furbaby like family. She's been a part of our family since she was 5 weeks old. She's such a sweet, loving cat. Nick never considered himself a cat person, but it wasn't long after we brought Kaikaina home that he quickly learned to love having a cat. Our 15-year-old dog, Roxy who was an only pet her whole life even accepted her into our family. It didn't take long for Roxy and Kaikaina to form a special bond. Kaikaina is a "momma's girl," and loves to purr and snuggle up with me daily, and even sleeps on me at night. Simply put, we couldn't love her any more than we do.
Needless to say, we decided to put the necessary deposit of $5030.36 on our credit card. The total could vary between $5030.36 and $6845.55 according to the estimate. This is on top of the $347.12 we spent at our vet for the initial bloodwork done.
We are reaching out to our loved ones (and anyone willing to help) to help us offset the cost of trying to save our furbaby. I'm a teacher, and Nick is a part-time employee at Kapiolani Community College. He recently graduated with his Masters, and has been job hunting which has slowed due to the covid-19 pandemic. The cost of these vet bills puts a strain on us, especially with our little one coming in less than 3 months. Any little bit would be so appreciated.
