My name is Melissa, I am the proud pawrent of our Wheaten Terrier, Lexi. She is everything and more that I could ask for in a dog. She loves wagging her tail with every Wheaten Greetin'. She is a laidback nature lover who will spend all afternoon sitting on a park bench with you. She walks at your side so well, sometimes a leash feels unnecessary. She is fluent in human. She is an amazing older sister to our 19 month old as well. Lexi is always at her side and puts up with a lot of fur tugging. She has patience like a saint. She is the backbone to our dog sitting business, she has helped us welcome over 150 dogs into our home. She has a playful personality and knows what she can get away with. She has me wrapped around her paw. Like other dog owners, I can't say enough good things about this girl.
Currently, Lexi has diabetes and some unknown health issues. (As of 1/21/2021) She steadily declined over the last couple days. She began drinking excessive amounts of water. Then, she couldn't hold down food or water. She didn't respond to food or treats, even her favorites. She became incredibly lethargic, to the point where she couldn't stand. She threw up and didn't get up quick enough, it got into her fur. I immediately gave her a bath but she couldn't stand. She laid in the tub and her eyes were just so sad.
We rushed her to an emergency vet. She was admitted and tests, bloodwork, and x rays were done. She has high blood sugar, ketones levels, and she was given insulin and antibiotics. The X-rays show that she does not have an infection, but that does not rule out kidney disease. She will be in intensive care for the next two days.
We created this GoFundMe to help alleviate the sudden cost. Because of the diabetes, insurance does not cover anything related to pre-existing conditions. We are so thankful for any and all forms of help.
I always said Lexi is my world, but I never realized how true those words are until I held her today. We had her since she was 5 months old and these 6 years with her have been such a blessing. She has made every walk, meal, holiday, cozy Sunday morning, Netflix binge-athon, overall day, that much sweeter. How did we get so lucky? Dogs give us so much, I feel like I could never come close to how much she has given me. But that never stops me from trying.
