Dear Fellow Animal Lovers:
I wanted to let you know that I cannot simply stand by and watch all the damage happening in Australia and hear all the overwhelming numbers of animals lost. There are some that can be saved, and I am headed there in a couple weeks to do what I was put on this earth to do—help animals in need. My colleague Dr. Jamie Peyton and I will be donating all of our time while we are there, so that we can help animals who are suffering and in need of emergency veterinary care. Dr Peyton is a veterinary burn specialist from UC DAVIS and she has an incredible amount of experience to share, specifically caring for animals injured by wildfires. I also have worked as an all species vet for 2 decades, treating injured wildlife in many different emergency situations, in countries around the world, and I know we can really help here.
This is not the first time that Dr. Peyton and I have collaborated. A few months ago, I learned from Dr. Peyton how to care for my patient, a dog named 'Archer' who had severe burns on over 50% of his body. Because of the research and techniques Dr. Peyton shared, including fish skin grafts, we were able to save Archer and he is a happy boy home with his family now!
SO... Dr. Peyton and I agreed we are going to Australia to help the overwhelming number of animals affected by the fires – wildlife, pets, farm animals – any poor creature that needs our help.
While we are donating our time, the animals will need supplies, equipment, medications, and more. If you want to support this effort, you can help by making a contribution in any amount. The funds we raise will be used to get us to the animals that need us, and for the supplies and anything we need to do to save these animals. We will post updates and share the stories, so you will see how you have worked with us to make a difference. Thank you for helping us save some of these animals. Its GO-TIME!
