Help Xena Walk Again — Updated Plan & Costs

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for following and supporting Xena’s journey so far. We wanted to update you on her current situation after her surgical consultation.

The good news is that Xena’s ACL (CCL) is not completely torn yet. However, because of her weight and her other hip issues, she is at very high risk for a full tear. The surgeon fully expects she will need surgery eventually, but he will not proceed until she loses at least 15–20 pounds to lower her surgical risk and help her recover safely.

When she’s ready, her surgery alone is estimated to cost $5,400.

In the meantime, her immediate priority is healthy weight loss. Xena has started on a prescription weight loss food, which costs about $5 per can. She will need to stay on this food until she reaches her target weight — and possibly continue it afterward to maintain her health.

Updated Cost Breakdown

Surgery: $5,400

Prescription weight loss food & weight management support: ~$1,000

Additional care buffer (follow-up visits, mobility aids, labs, medications): ~$600

New Total Goal: $7,000

Why We’re Asking for Help

Xena is not just a pet — she’s a deeply loved member of our family, and our son Odin’s best friend and protector. She has been with us since she was 8 weeks old and just turned 6 this past April.

Her ability to run, play, and enjoy life depends on us being able to provide her with the surgery she needs and the special food and care to get her there safely.

Thanks to your incredible support so far, we’ve already been able to purchase mobility aids that have given her more freedom and dignity at home and in the yard.

Now, we’re focused on helping her lose weight safely and preparing for surgery as soon as she’s ready.
