Hi, everyone!
My name is Sydney Sauschuck Mininno, and Kimber Clegg and Gavin Mazziotti are friends of mine. While I’m a dog mom (not a cat mom), I know how deeply pets mean to their people.
Kimber and Gavin’s cat, Moe (affectionately called Mobey), was recently hospitalized. Earlier today, his bloodwork showed dangerously high potassium levels, which made this an emergency. The vets immediately placed a catheter to drain the urine he had been retaining. He ended up releasing 150 ml of urine — three times what a cat typically holds. Thankfully, the procedure went well.
The vets are now closely monitoring Moe’s heart since his electrolyte imbalance could trigger a heart attack. They told them that if he hadn’t been brought in when he was, he could have suffered a fatal heart attack or a rupture. His mucus plug had caused a dangerous backup, and while this sometimes happens in cats for unknown reasons, Moe will now need a special diet moving forward.
Moe is truly the sweetest boy. He’s only 4 years old, loves being held like a baby, and his favorite things are making biscuits on his people and dinnertime. Kimber and Gavin rescued him from the shelter over a year ago — he was born there, surrendered, and spent several months waiting for a home before they adopted him.
In just 24 hours, Moe’s vet bills have already reached nearly $3,000, with more likely to come. Kimber is the last person who would ever ask for help, but she and Gavin adore their three cats, and these past two days have been incredibly stressful and scary.
Any donation, no matter the size, would go a long way toward easing their financial burden. If you’re a pet owner, you know they’re more than companions — they’re family.
