Bobbie is an almost 10-year-old Labrador who has been by my son Louie's side for the past nine years. They grew up together — genuinely best friends. We rescued Bobbie nine years ago from a neglectful home, and from the moment he arrived, he chose Louie as his person.
This week, our world was turned upside down when Bobbie suddenly lost the use of his front legs.
He's still the same bright, alert, food-loving Bobbie he's always been — tail wagging, eyes full of life — but he can no longer move properly, and watching him grow frustrated and withdrawn is heartbreaking. He deserves a fighting chance.
To find out what's happening and give Bobbie a chance at treatment, the vets have outlined what lies ahead:
- Vet consultations (each visit carries a fee of £50–£75, and there will be several) — approx. £250
- X-rays — approx. £200–£300
- CT scan or MRI — this is where costs escalate sharply. The average cost for a dog MRI in the UK is now around £3,789, and CT scans start from around £744
- Spinal surgery, if required — a procedure including consultation, anaesthesia, imaging and hospitalisation can cost in the region of £5,995
- Medication, pain relief and ongoing prescriptions — hundreds of pounds more
- Follow-up appointments and rehabilitation — further costs on top
In total, we are potentially looking at £5,000–£8,000 or more, depending on what the scans reveal. As a single parent on a low income with no pet insurance, this is simply beyond what I can manage alone.
I am also actively researching lower-cost options, including university veterinary teaching hospitals, which offer the same specialist care at significantly reduced prices. Every penny donated will be spent as wisely as possible — I will keep this page updated every step of the way so you can see exactly where your kindness is going.
Without this funding, I face the heartbreaking prospect of saying goodbye to a dog who is otherwise healthy, bright, and full of life — simply because I cannot afford to find out what's wrong.
Bobbie came from nothing, found his home with us, and has given us nine years of unconditional love. Please help us give him a chance.
Every single pound brings us closer to an answer. And if you can't donate, please share — it costs nothing and could change everything.
Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.
