Emergency Transition Fund: Or, Finding The Funny?

Donation protected
Dear Friends,

If it weren't true it would be a comedy. But, it's true so with humility and humor I am reaching out to you. I am trying to balance this year's dual loss of Mom (who died in February) and Dad (who died in August) with the pathos of Charlie Chaplin, and artist Dad so dearly loved. Therefore, I'm sharing here I am, and with humility what I am looking to do to help Luca and I move through the end of the year.

Many of you helped us to reach an enormous mitzvah that helped to pay 22,000 USD of hospital/hospice/funeral expenses when Dad died. Thank you again from the depth of my heart. Dad gave his whole heart and entire savings to support Mom, and he did leave me just enough for two months of rent when he died. Here starts "the comedy":

BUT FIRST, THE GOOD PART:
  • The company I started with wonderful people in Rome is finding its voice and energy. The App I am creating for rock musicians with friends in LA is on a great road. I've just been asked to be the core writer for a Women's NGO starting in November. All three are major projects and should realistically hit profitability in late December/January.
  • Luca is on track to graduate, he's been asked to practice with the local college wrestling team and dreams of the Olympics, and he's finally taking out the trash.
  • Grief is fabulous: I lost 10 pounds.

THE LIFE IS A COMEDY PART:
  • Although Dad left me (upon his death in August) two months for rent, we got a bill that came upon his death for $7,000. I promptly paid it. There went the rent.
  • At the end of September, the large contract for a 4-month gig I fought to get while Dad was in hospice canceled the project.
  • Realizing I needed to be humble and accept help, I did reach out for the support of the local resource center that has emergency services for women (particularly single moms) and they've helped me APPLY for rent support for October.

I know, not as funny as I could probably write it. But, here's where there's no charm and only a humble request:
  • I have the applications in for rent for October 3,478 USD though I do not know if it will be approved
  • I have decided to create an emergency fund to help get to the end of 2023. This is the exact rent ($3478) for three months (Oct-December).
  • All funds will be for November/December needs for rent, insurance payments, and all the expensive stuff of Northern California life. This will also support our tickets to NY for the memorial and one last outstanding bill of 2500 for Dad’s storage.

I know that you have given so much. I have turned every stone and am confident that this too shall pass -- yet, I need help.

If you can support the fund in any way, I would be grateful. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, and it is bright. There is only laughter through the tears, and thank you for whatever you might be able to donate.

I am grateful for your care and love,

Sarah

Note: I did launch this originally for one month's rent, though friends and family have encouraged me to change it to reflect the true need we have.
