This week, once again, rumors spread that the dogs on the beach were about to be taken away. The only way to protect them was to act fast: vaccinate, sterilize and give them an ear tag.

Renata, a well-known figure in Tamraght who has been helping countless dogs and cats in the village for years, decided to take action herself.

She organized the rescue and care of as many beach dogs as possible before it was too late.

In just a few days, 21 dogs were safely trapped, transported to the veterinarian, vaccinated, sterilized, tagged and will be released back to their territory.

This is the story of the street dogs living in Tamraght, Morocco...

Regularly, local authorities collect stray dogs in order to “clean” public spaces, especially the beach. What happens to these dogs afterwards is never made public. Although authorities now speak of a new animal center, the reality is simple: no dog has ever returned vaccinated and sterilized.

Yet we know that the only effective and humane way to control the stray dog population and prevent the spread of rabies is through the TNVR program (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release).
