Emergency Surgery - Help Save Carlos' Vision
Donation protected
Who: Carlos Garcia - a father, Marine, my brother, and all-around nice person
What: Sudden retinal detachment surgery, at risk of permanently losing his vision if he doesn't undergo pneumatic retinopexy (PR) immediately
When: He met with a vision specialist today (March 31st) due to issues with his vision and was told he is at very high risk of permanent blindness. His surgery is being scheduled within 24 hours due to the potential loss of permanent eyesight
Where: Carlos lives in Oxnard, CA. A specialist from Texas is flying in to perform the surgery, as he believes immediate surgery will have the highest chance to save his eyesight
Why: We need help financially because Carlos has been without health insurance due to his line of work - he works as a body guard/security and all jobs are contract-work, without health benefits. Carlos has also been out of the Marine Corps. too long for the VA to assist (and if you have ANY experience with the VA, you do *not* want them working on your eyes)
Any financial contribution will help. Carlos' family and friends are working together to help make the situation less stressful for him. We appreciate you taking the time to learn about Carlos' situation, sharing this call for help, and helping him at this time.
Carlos is easily the most selfless and most giving person I know. In the 36 years I've known him, he has never been one to walk away from helping people. That translated into him serving 5 years in the Marine Corps., and into how he's been as a father to his two boys, Evan and Ethan. Carlos will stop on the side of the highway to change a tire, he will stop at an accident and secure the area until help arrives, he will fly across the country to help a grieving friend without a second thought. But one thing about Carlos is how stubborn he is when it comes to accepting help - and that's where his friends and family come in.
We learned today from Carlos that he is suffering from a retinal detachment in one eye and after speaking with his vision specialist, he has to undergo surgery within 24 hours if there is any chance to save the vision in his eye. The surgery is nothing short of a medical marvel, and a surgeon from Texas is flying to California to perform the surgery as I type this. But Carlos needs our help.
Due to Carlos' line of work as a body guard/security guard, his jobs are all contract-based and offer no benefits. Carlos typically works two jobs putting in over 60 hours a week to be able to live in California close to his kids, and as I mentioned before, the last person he thinks of providing for is himself. So we are hoping to raise the money for Carlos' surgery and recovery.
Any amount will help. Please share this with anyone you feel may is inclined to help or share. From Carlos, his friends and family - thank you.
