EMERGENCY surgery fund for Stellas tail amputation
Hello,
I am looking to raise money for my good friend's dog who was critically injured today after being hit by a car. She now requires tail amputation and skin grafts. The estimated surgery price is to come (current emergency vet bill is around $5000). I am hoping to relieve some of this financial burden and save a very good girl.
Stella is a 4 year old border collie x lab x Rottweiler rescue mix. She was hit by a moving vehicle this afternoon around 4:30PM. As a result, her tail has suffered a severe avulsion/degloving injury (a type of severe injury that happens when the top layers of your skin and tissue are ripped from the underlying muscle, connective tissue, or bone). The soft tissue of her tail was completely ripped off and she is just left with bone remaining. Based on the photos provided (on the way for an in-person vet exam currently) - the vet has said there is not enough skin remaining at the hub of her tail, therefore, a tail amputation with skin grafts is recommended.

UPDATE: Stella has made it to the vet. —Due to the remoteness of the village where she lives, the closest vet is 3 hours away. This vet stated they are unequipped to take Stella at the moment to perform this surgery, so the next closest vet that can take her is in Saskatoon. Stella was given immediate medical attention by a member of the community who runs a dog rescue effort. This kind woman was able to secure her wounds & provide pain medication for the ride to the vet. She is currently stable, medicated, and en route for care.
Stella is genuinely (what I would consider to be) Brittany's "heart dog". They have a strong, unique connection that has been built up on unconditional love. On even the hardest days, Stella can make Brittany soften. In a room full of people and dogs, Stella's eyes are always on Brittany. Stella is the loyal companion that listens, loves, and molds herself into whatever you need her to be in that moment. Hearing Brittany sobbing on the phone at the thought of losing her baby was enough to break my heart & so I am hoping to relieve some of the pain she is feeling.

Background:
Brittany and Ryan have been amazing fur parents over the last 4 years to their two dogs and one cat. Originally from Ontario (north of Toronto) - Brittany and Ryan set out to a northern village in Saskatchewan called La Loche (6 hours north of Saskatoon), where they both work as front-line workers. Brittany currently works as an emergency department Registered Nurse in a medical centre in one of Saskatchewan's COVID-19 hot spots. I would feel lucky to have such a caring, compassionate, driven individual for a care provider. Brittany truly encompasses all of the best parts of being a nurse, and then some!
La Loche has a large stray dog population - nearly 100 dogs were pulled off the streets by rescues last month alone - Stella was also once one of these dogs. Found as a puppy deep in the woods, she has become an integral part of Brittany's life, alongside her other dog and cat (also rescues). Brittany loves to teach Stella new tricks, to dress her up in collars/bows/bandanas, to take her for walks, to take photos of her, and to sleep cuddled up with her every night. Stella loves Brittany (& Ryan & her fur siblings), fetch, treats, and being brushed. They are a perfect pairing.
In her spare time, Brittany has managed to find homes for countless dogs and puppies from her community's feral dog population - many of which have found homes with her own friends and family (a few here in Ontario!). She often feeds strays, provides care for strays, helps out with rescue/rehoming efforts, and has has coordinated many rides and flights to vets/rescues/airports/new homes!
Brittany is an animal lover through and through. She always has been and always will be.
