We’re living every pet parent’s worst nightmare: while we’re abroad, our sweet Zoey is in a life-threatening emergency. She has a bleeding mass on her spleen, and we’re being forced to make an impossible decision from miles away: fight for her life through emergency surgery, or lose her without even getting the chance to say goodbye.
Thankfully, Zoey is not alone. Her Aunt Nikki got home from our trip Tuesday night and immediately noticed something wasn’t right. Zoey is a known drama queen, and at first, her refusal to eat seemed like her usual reaction when we’re away. But Nikki trusted her instincts. She noticed Zoey’s ears and gums were unusually pale and that something deeper was wrong. Acting quickly, she followed her gut and rushed Zoey to the vet, getting her there just in time to give her a fighting chance.
After receiving the devastating news and weighing our options, we’ve chosen to move forward with surgery because we are not letting Zoey go without a goodbye. There is also a small chance the mass is benign, and that removing it could give Zoey more healthy time with us. But there is also a 2/3 chance that it’s cancer, which could mean we only have a few months left. No matter the outcome, we want to do everything we can to give Zoey that chance and the opportunity to say a proper goodbye if it comes to that.
Zoey has been part of our family since November 2017, and she is so much more than a pet. She is our baby, our comfort, and such a big part of our lives. Anyone who knows her knows how special she is.
We know that times are tough and asking for help is not easy, but if you are able to contribute in any way, we would be incredibly grateful. Your support will go directly toward Zoey’s surgery, and it truly means the world to us.
If you’ve ever loved a pet like family, you know how much this means. Thank you ❤️
