Emergency surgery for Wilfred
**UPDATE** While performing the surgery, they found an dangerous intestinal infection that they wouldn't have caught if Wilfred hadn't eaten the carpet and gotten sick. So, we are very, VERY lucky they caught it in time! Unfortunately, this means the cost of the surgery went up to about $6800.
Wilfred, Shawn's six month old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy, chewed up a carpet about a week ago, and ingested some of it - this has caused a blockage in his intestines. The vet initially gave him some medication, hoping it would pass on its own, but a week later, his health has horribly declined, and they are going to need to perform emergency surgery to clear the blockage.
As those of you who know me know, I hate asking for help - my brother Shawn is the same way. He's only 19 and does not have the means to pay for this surgery on his own - so we're reaching out for help.
I'm sure all of you animal lovers can relate - Wilfred is Shawn's furry best friend. My dear brother fell into a deep depression about a year ago when his father (Shawn is my half brother) passed away unexpectedly. For those of you who don't know Shawn, he is a little comedian - always cracking jokes to make others smile, and his joyful energy can light up any room. Watching what he and Patrick went through after the death of their father was devastating - I never imagined seeing my brothers without the same light in their eyes.
About six months ago, Shawn adopted Wilfred as a puppy. The little furball was a ball of energy from day one, and quite the little touble maker, at that. But he is so loving, and gentle, and really has been such a blessing in our lives. Thanks to the companionship with this sweet little puppy, we finally starting seeing the real Shawn return - our little comedian and his joy was coming back. Wilfred may not be a trained therapy dog, but he has made quite the improvement to Shawn's mental and emotional health.
Obviously, the decision whether or not to perform this life-saving surgery for Wilfred was no choice. Shawn doesn't deserve to suffer another loss. And Wilfred is the sweetest furry pup in the world, and obviously we want him to be better as soon as possible so he can get back to slobbering all over us and being the snuggle-ball we all love.
Any donation is helpful - if you can't donate, please consider sharing on your personal social media pages.
We are asking to raise 3500 - the full cost of the veterinary bills will be closer to 4600, but we are only asking for what we can't afford to cover ourselves.
Thank you all in advance for your support!
