Emergency Surgery for Nimbus (8mo GSD)

On January 3rd, 2021, we rescued a 10week old King Shepherd puppy.  We named him Nimbus, cause he looked like a huge cloud. He is super fluffy, friendly and loves everybody and all other animals. He is super talkative and loves to be a lap dog despite his hundred pound size.   (Read till the end)

About a week ago we are at somebody else's house, and based on what we learned from the veterinarian, he swallowed this squeaky plush toy whole.

He didn't develop any problems until the weekend the 4th of July. His ears were always back, he looked depressed and he wouldn't play or bark or anything. He stopped eating on Saturday, and started throwing up pure liquid for the next 2 days.

We brought him to the emergency vet as soon as we could Monday morning, and found out he had eaten this toy. It caused the gastro-intestinal blockage.

They had to do exploratory surgery to open up his abdomen, and cut open his intestines to go get it because there was no way he was going to pass it.

They did the surgery on Monday and the next day he seem to be back to his old self. But that night and the next morning he seemed super sluggish, which we chalked up to his pain medication that he was on. He liked wet food at first, but then he wasn't eating again, and Thursday morning he didn't really want to move at all, and I had to carry him places to go to bed or go to the bathroom.

We brought him back to the vet today and they checked him out. He put some weight back on and he wasn't running a temperature and didn't have a fever anymore.

They did a ultrasound of his abdomen and found a large pocket of liquid that they extracted (3litres worth) and determined there was a massive bacterial infection in his abdominal cavity and the incision site on his intestines. This caused the stitches to fail, which caused fluid to escape into his abdomen.

We brought him home. The Dr suggested that if possible, she reccomended to check him into an animal hospital to receive IV fluid treatment for a few days.  That cost would be almost 2k a day.  We can't afford that, so we're going to bring him back in the morning to go for one full day of that IV antibiotics treatment.  He is going to be on a massive handful of antibiotics this time that will be delivered orally instead of the one injection he got post-surgery last time, once he's off the IV treatment.  He's fighting off a very bad infection inside, and needs all sorts of IV help. His white blood cell count was almost non existent.

We usually don't ask people for money, and these were two rather expensive procedures that fell out of the sky and we were not expecting at all. I was able to get approved for a small limit credit card to handle some of the cost up front, and we both emptied our savings, but with the remaining of that surgery cost and this new surgery we don't have enough to cover the difference and fund further treatments.  The total bill is going to be right around $13,000 to cover the cost of both surgeries and all his medications, and treatments if we were to do it the way the doctor reccomended by do full time treatment at the hospital.

So any little bit could help, but the only thing we can return to you in exchange, would be to give you a #teamnimbus leather keychain that I could make, since I do leather work on the side. If you are local I'm sure you will get plenty of pets and attention from him when you see him after his recovery, as he would love to show you his appreciation and so would we.

Please help out in any way you can, even the smallest amount will help at this point. We and his puppy-brother just want him to get better, and be well.
This pic is tonight after bringing him home.

The monies raised will help pay for the surgeries he's already had, plus the IV antibiotics and fluids treatments as well as medication and different food that will be easy to digest I've the next 14day recovery period.  If we can raise enough, we will put him in Hospital care so he can stay on the antibiotics 24hours for the next few days.  He needs all the help he can get to fight off the infection and make more white blood cells
