Emergency Surgery for My Sweet Dog Owen

Hi friends,

My sweet dog Owen needs surgery as soon as possible. Unfortunately, his vets believe he has cancer in his paw and are recommending immediate amputation. The procedure is expected to cost around $6,000.

This past year has been incredibly difficult for both of us—filled with scary exams, painful procedures, and countless vet visits. I’m hoping this is the last major hurdle we’ll have to face.

With everything happening in the world, I would never normally ask for donations for myself. But Owen is pure-hearted, loving, and truly the most important part of my life. I’m turning to my community because I honestly don’t know where else to turn.

A bit about how we found each other: I’ve loved dogs all my life. After college, I knew I wasn’t in a financial position to adopt an animal. I had always vowed to wait until I knew I could give it the life it deserved. But then, I found Owen. He’d been chained up in a backyard for nearly a year. All of his siblings had already died, and he was dangerously close. I rescued him—and I’ve never once regretted it. He’s been the best part of my every day since, and I try so hard to give him the best life possible.

Because of the neglect he experienced early in life, Owen has faced a lifetime of health issues. I do everything I can to keep him healthy: special baths, prescription food, five walks a day, medication, medication, medication, and bimonthly vet visits. In the past two years alone, I’ve spent $30,000 on his medical needs, with another $15,000 generously donated by friends.

I work full-time, but at this point, I simply can’t take on the financial burden alone—and I can’t keep asking the same few people to step in.

A little more about Owen: he’s the sweetest cuddle bug, a snack goblin who lives for citrus and tofurkey. He loves to swim—but only in his shark life vest, because he’s so dense he sinks like a rock. And, he is my best friend.
