Hey y’all, it’s Kira.
On Friday, May 2nd, 2025, our youngest, Minnie swallowed a small tapestry needle with around 12 inches of thread. I had been cross stitching all day, and, like normal, put my needle on my needle minder. My husband, Brandon had just gotten home and we were about to eat dinner. Minnie was behind us on the couch and started licking the string. By the time we saw what she was doing it was too late. She ran, and the needle and thread were gone.
I immediately called our local vet and we took her to get an X-ray. It was there, in her stomach. Our local vet didn’t have the tech to try to scope her to maybe just pull it out, so we were sent with a referral to BluePearl hospital, which is about 2 hours away on the northside of Atlanta.
By the time we got there and had her checked in, the needle and thread had moved. The X-rays showed that it could have perforated her colon and was floating around her abdomen area.
The doctor told us it was too late to scope it out, she had to have surgery immediately.
The total for the surgery was almost $7,000.
As many of you know, Brandon and I were supposed to be taking a Disney trip on May 4, but thankfully, Disney allowed us to cancel with a refund, so the damage financially is substantially less, but we could still use some help to pay off Minnie’s emergency medical bill we are now faced with.
Thank you all for taking the time to read our story.
