Emergency surgery for Epona

Hello everyone! Well it’s with a regretful heart I am here asking for help.

That sweet face you see is Epona that came to live with me this last fall by way of an amazing person known in the tiktok and insta world as OliviaVanFoxFace (Jess) along with her buddy Shadow. Epona and Shadow have been perfect additions to my farm and my daughters LOVE Epona. She was set to spend the rest of her days being pampered by them and doing a few unicorn parties for local kids. Get spoiled and loved by little girls, dressed up like a fairytale princess and enjoy her golden years.

Unfortunately she in a pretty bad way. I went to feed this evening (1/18 around 6pm) and she was laying down in the back of the pen. I coaxed her up, she followed me to the feeder then went back and laid down. Anyone that knows horses knows this is not a good sign. I ran in the house and grab some necessities and went to tend to Epona. Within 15 minutes she went down again. I got her up again, and we started walking. She continued to go down another 6 times. I was on the phone with the vet and decided it was best to bring her in instead of a farm call since they are able to do so much more at the clinic. Loaded up and made the 45 minute drive to the outstanding McKinlay and Peters Equine Hosptial in Otis Orchards,WA.

After some meds and an exam it was determined she has a large mass in her small intestine. She is staying the night at the vet in hopes that the mass does break up and pass BUT we are leaning towards it being an enterolith. An  enterolith is a large rock hard mass that can accumulate in a horses intestines. It most likely starts with a foreign object that didn’t pass and their body basically turns it into a big gnarly rock, kind of like an oyster does with a Pearl but this isn’t pretty or good. If it does break up then the prognosis is much better and easier. But if it doesn’t... it’s not great. It will mean surgery at Washington State University in Pullman.

Now as to why this go fund me is being made. Iinsure all my horses. For reasons like this. And I do my policies at the end of January so was going to add Epona and Shadow when I did everyone else’s. As of right now her vet bill is $1000+ if she needs surgery it will be around $5000. $1000 I have, $5,000 will hurt my funds and family pretty bad. As we know covid hasn’t been kind to a lot of pocket books and ours was no exception. I don’t expect much or anything but every penny will help. I love my animals dearly and deeply so saving Epona’s life is a priority.

She is loved by many and I have some little girls who will be devastated  to lose her too. We lost another horse earlier this year to old age and that was heartbreaking for them.

If you can donate I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You can even call the clinic directly if you wish and if we head to WSU I will update that here as well as tiktok and instagram.

Thank you for reading and THANK YOU to anyone that helps!

In the mean time pray for poop! I know that sounds weird but if you know horses you know that is a very good thing!
