Emergency Surgery for Daves service dog,Ellie Mae
Donation protected
Update: Ellie is out of surgery and is resting well with the amazing team at Centre Vétérinaire Rive-Sud. We were told the surgery went well, and they were able to relocate the leg back into the hip, using a prosthetic ligament to hold it in the socket. They also discovered a partially torn ligament to her other leg's ankle, however it was not severe, and they were able to suture it, and she will have a cast on it. She will also need to be walked with a band around her abdomen to hold her rear up, so she does not put too much weight on either leg while they both heel. She is not out of the woods yet, and there is a long road of recovery ahead of her. Please continue sharing please continue to spread the word!
A few people have been asking about the changing "Goal" amount. I wanted to set a realistic goal to raise for Ellie Mae's vet costs. As the overwhelming and amazingly generous support poured in, it became clear, we would reach the goal in short time. The totals costs for Ellie's surgery is expected to exceed $8,000, and could be more in the coming weeks. We are trying to help alleviate some of the stress that comes with a tramatic experiences such as what Dave and Ellie Mae have experienced. I will leave the goal as is, and appreciate all the support and love from everyone.
Hello, my name is Courtney Black. I am raising funds to help Dave Ross and his service dog Ellie Mae.
For many of us, our pets are our family, and we would do just about anything for them!
To know Dave, is to know, and immediately love Ellie Mae.
On Saturday, Sept 23rd Ellie Mae was hit by a car in an unfortunate accident. This was not the driver's fault.
She was rushed to Kawartha Emergency Vet clinic (thank you Ashley!) who immediately took her in and started treatment. The amazing Doctor's at KVEC were able to stabilize Ellie Mae, and clean up her wounds.
Although many of her wounds were minor and treatable, Ellie did suffer major and serious damage to her left hind leg. The severity of damage could not be treated by the clinic, nor a general veterinary Doctor. It requires specialized treatment from an orthopedic surgeon, of which there only about 5 or 6 within the GTHA. Unfortunately all clinics were unable to treat Ellie, and she was required to be transfer to a clinic in Montreal.
The severity of the damage is, in a worst case scenario, the left is at risk of being amputated. As you may imagine, this is a very expensive, but the injury cannot go untreated
I implore anyone reading this, please donate and help support.
As a service dog, Ellie Mae has played such an important part in helping Dave regain his independence and confidence in living an independent life after his own life-altering accident which left him with a traumatic-brain injury and seizures. Ellie's support for Dave has given him the confidence to attend public places and gatherings, we all take for granted, such as grocery shopping or walks through the park.
I've tried to set a realistic goal, however the truth is, it is maybe 1/2 of the estimated costs.
Please help, support and donate what ever is available for you to do so, for this very expensive, yet absolutely necessary surgery. If we can ease even little of the stress this traumatic experience has had on both Dave & Ellie Mae, we are all truly appreciative and forever grateful. ❤️
