Emergency Surgery For Bayleigh
Donation protected
Our sweet Bayleigh has to go in for emergency surgery on Tuesday, January 25th in hopes of removing a foreign object from her stomach or intestines. The night of Thursday, January 20th Bayleigh started acting unusual; she started panting, shaking and becoming very lethargic. She then spent majority of Thursday night vomiting and showing signs of discomfort. Friday morning she would not eat or drink and was still acting very strange so we took her to the Vet where they ran a full blood work test and gave her IV fluids as she was very dehydrated. The results of the blood work didn’t show any signs of toxins which the Vet had thought would be a possibility and all her levels for her liver, kidney’s etc. were good. We then decided to get some x-rays done to see if there was any chance she had swallowed a toy or something else and the x-rays did not show any signs of that either. The Vet did see some inflammation through the tests and Bayleigh got an anti inflammatory injection to try to reduce the inflammation and make her more comfortable. We then took her home in hopes that the medication and fluids would help her improve. At home Bayleigh was still very lethargic and not her usual self; her dog and cat friends at home would try and play with her and she showed no interest which is very strange of her and she was very tired and still not wanting to eat or drink anything. Many times throughout the day and night she was vomiting bile pretty frequently because her stomach was empty. We took her back to the Vet on Saturday as she had not improved any and they gave her more fluids to help with dehydration and this time she received an antibiotic to fight any infection she could have. For the weekend we kept an eye on her and she still had not improved at all. Today, Monday January 24th she went back to the vet to get more blood work to check her levels again and see if maybe she had ingested a toxin that the bloodwork would show that now because sometimes it can take some time for it to show up in the blood. The levels of her organs were still good, and there were no signs of toxins, but the bloodwork did show that she still has a lot inflammation, even after receiving the anti inflammatory medication. The Vet is very certain that there may be something lodged inside or wrapped around Bayleigh’s stomach or intestines and instead of waiting days to get an ultrasound we have decided to do surgery immediately. The Vet is very concerned for her condition and says that waiting any longer could cause a lot of complications. Bayleigh is very young; a 2 year old lab who loves to play with toys, go for hikes, swim at the cottage and play with her friends, she has so much life ahead of her and we hate to see her struggle this much. She hasn’t eaten or drank water in 4 days now and we just want her to feel like herself again. We have already spent over $1000 on Vet visits, medication and running tests and her surgery is going to cost close to $3000 but could become more depending on their findings and how her recovery goes. We would do anything to help her get better and any bit of help would be so appreciated! Bayleigh is loved by many and we are so thankful for anyone who takes the time to donate or even keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
