Gracie’s story is heartbreaking…

because no animal should ever have to endure what she went through.

Gracie was found trapped underneath an MTA trailer, tangled in metal and wire, crying out in pain…

for days.

No one came.

No one helped.

She was left there—alone, terrified, and suffering.

By the time we were finally notified by an MTA employee, her condition was already critical.

Her leg was severely broken and badly infected.

In her desperation to survive, she kept trying to pull herself free—making the injury even worse.

Imagine the pain she endured.

Imagine being stuck, unable to move, crying for help that never comes.

We fought for over 24 hours just to gain access to her location.

We were denied access—but we refused to give up on her.

When we finally reached Gracie, there was no time to waste.

She was rushed immediately to the emergency hospital, where the doctor on call took her straight into critical care. Her vitals were unstable, and the team began working on her immediately to save her life.

Gracie underwent emergency surgery the very next day.

After surgery, we hoped she was finally safe…

but then she developed a fever, and had to remain hospitalized for additional intensive care.

This is the heartbreaking reality of rescue.

We are Astoria Cat Rescue, a small, volunteer-run organization.

We do not receive government funding.

We rely entirely on donations from people like you.

We did not have the funds for a case this severe…

but we also did not have the heart to walk away and let her die.

So we said yes to saving her life—

even though it meant taking on overwhelming medical bills.
