Emergency surgery - dumped with a deformity
This sad little face is of a 10 weeks old kitten found running scared in the streets of Gravesend. Thankfully some lovely residents found him and made sure he was caught. He was brought into my care just a couple of days ago. Scared and filthy. After 24 hours he was calm enough for me to have a good look at him. His tummy bloated with worms and fur matted and full of seeds.
However his dirt was hiding something. A wound the size of a 50p on his leg. His leg swollen and bent. We rushed him to the Shrubbery Vets. They cleaned the wound and did X-rays to check for breaks. His tale becomes sadder as it transpires that there where no breaks but that he has a birth deformity which makes his leg buckle. So since this tiny ball of fluff could walk he has been walking on his knee. This has resulted in the skin being worn away. The fact he was found crying in the streets and that his wound was open and untreated leads us to believe he was dumped. It would have been noticed since he was born. How he has survived is a miracle.
Tomorrow he goes back to the vets to have his leg amputated. It’s a huge surgery, not without its risk, but he needs it to save his life. He has made it so far and we will do everything in our power to help him fight. It’s heartbreaking.
Please think of him tomorrow and send him all your light and love that he makes it.
With the bloods, xrays, worming, antibiotics, pain relief, the amputation and after care, the estimate will be nearing £1,500 to get him fixed up and on the road to recovery. If you could spare just £1 to help us to help him, we would very much appreciate it, as would he.
