1st Responder-Emergency surgery, cancer and theft

Hi my name is Chris and I was a Deputy Sheriff for 17 years until I was hurt and retired. My little friend at the top is Tigre. I adopted her as a 3 week old kitten that had been abandoned in a box with my vet.

After I retired I moved to Florida I became an investigator for the Florida Dept of Health. I became a whistle blower and was fired after I found that people inside FDOH were protecting pharmacies doing fraud.

I was unable to find work and from there my journey took me to the Dominican Republic and I bought a condo and became a successful superhost. But problems began happening when I had to sell the condo to buy another condo for myself. The bank had pre-approved me, then withdrawn the offer after I made a $20,000 non-refundable deposit. The new owner wanted me to manage the condo, but fired my cleaning girl Oni. Oni was very poor, had become a close friend over the last 4 years, and just had a baby. We shared Christmas dinners together because I have no family here.

The new owner wanted to hire someone else for a less amount and pocket the difference. He offered me $1000 not to cancel $10000 in future bookings. I declined his offer and cancelled his bookings, even though it was free money for doing nothing. These are my principles.

In 2021 I was diagnosed with prostate cancer, but it was at an early stage. Problems began to happen in May 2023 when I became very sick and needed emergency surgery in Miami. This was about $5000 which I had to charge to a credit card. In 2023 I needed a biopsy for my cancer and the cancer had grown more aggressively than expected and I just went through treatment, leaving me now with another $8596 medical bill and a monthly payment of $859.

But I wanted to do something good and I created a business here in Punta Cana for Oni. It was an ice cream store. In a very short period of time it had created a lot of good reviews. 37 five star reviews is pretty good. It cost me about $15000 to open, all of it going on a credit card. After a month my friend Oni could not work at the store very much, because of the baby and she lives an hour away. Initially, she told me she could, which is why I opened the business. So now I was left to operate the business by myself with my girlfriend helping.

This was my store and some happy customers.

When I returned from cancer treatment in Miami 3 weeks ago, I was sick from the radiation. My girlfriend of 4 years had been working the store while I was gone, but had to return home for a few days. When she didn't return in a week and a half to help me it started an argument. I was in pain due to inflammation from radiation. After 4 years of supporting her and her family, she left me and demanded money. When I said no, this is what happened.

A truck pulls up to my business at 3:26 AM and everything inside is stolen. I went to the police and the prosecutors. They said they will not help because it is a civil dispute. I lost everything expect the credit card balances. I also lost my $2400 cash deposit to the building owner, as he will not refund my deposits.

This was all done to help a poor friend get a job. I now have $27000 in credit card debt and $8500 in medical bills. the funds will be used to pay medical bills and the credit cards that are building.

I had emergency surgery in May to remove a foreign metal object in my abdomen. That was really strange as I have no idea what it was, but it wasn't a wire from a BBQ brush. Thanks so much to the University of Miami Hospital Doctors and Nurses. They are the best !!!
