Emergency surgery bill assistance for Zecháriah

Donation protected
On Sunday, August 16th, Zecháriah was preparing to help lead the Black Is Beautiful bike ride in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She had been in excruciating ovarian and abdominal pain, which isn’t too uncommon for her, but something felt different. Zecháriah ended up in the ER and was admitted for emergency surgery. Zecháriah underwent a laparoscopic surgery to treat severe ovarian torsion and removal of tumors and cysts. This can cost upwards of $10,000.

Black women are especially isolated and alienated in the American healthcare system. Zecháriah has endured these issues for over 10 years. After seeing countless doctors, being ignored or looked over, these issues took a dangerous toll.

The longstanding racism that is embedded in our history and institutions has taken shape in our healthcare system, that disproportionately affects the livelihood of Black Women. The need for quality, timely and appropriate medical care is of the essence. However, we continue to fall short on this, and Black women are suffering because of it.

Unfortunately, Zecháriah is uninsured and has been slammed with a debt that will be hard to cover. Working while recovering is difficult, so we are asking that if you have anything to spare to help with unexpected costs at this difficult time. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing. Thank you!
