Emergency Surgeries and New Car

In mid December Adrian suffered a clot in the artery to his intestines that led to much of his intestines becoming necrotic and needing to be removed. He was in the hospital for a month and then again for for a week at the end of January and now suffers from Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS). He ended up losing over 45 lbs. Since then, he's been at home receiving IV nutrition as he's not able to absorb much nutrition from eating and is still suffering some effects of malnutrition as well as frequent trips to the bathroom.
Though we're very fortunate to have good health insurance, we still have a high out-of-pocket maximum for both 2018 and 2019 as his hospital stay extended through the new calendar year ($4,500 each year). Adding to those hardships, both Adrian and Malinda's cars stopped working. Once Adrian returned home, Malinda has been the primary caretaker for both Adrian and the kids. For the last few months she's been borrowing cars from her parents to get kids to practices, appointments, as well as Adrian to many of his appointments. However, Malinda starts a new job next week and needs a new car in order to get there. We're hoping to get $10,000 to put towards a new one as well as trade in the 2 cars in need of major repairs.
Going forward, we're hoping that Adrian will be able to start a new medicine, Gattex, that will help him be able to absorb nutrition from food that eats and become less dependent on the IV nutrition. Since Gattex is an orphan drug used for a rare disease that's only been out for a few years, it costs thousands per month. Insurance is fighting starting Gattex for now, so we may have a high copay, it's unclear how much help we will get from the pharmaceutical company will give (it's on a sliding scale). The hope is that this will also give him some of his independence back as well.
Thank you for any help that you may be able to give.
