*This summary has been updated as of 8/4/25 for clarity and to reflect the current situation*
Umm Sadeem (Arabic for Sadeem’s mother) created this fundraiser in June 2024 to collect urgent funds for her husband and her two little daughters (Sadeem, 8, and Nema, 5) in Gaza. She was forced to leave Gaza in November 2023 when her niece Dilara was badly injured, and Dilara’s mother was martyred in an airstrike. Not long after Umm Sadeem left with Dilara, the crossings were closed, and she was unable to return to her children. They have now been separated for nearly two years.
Umm Sadeem is currently in Tunisia, where she is studying, receiving treatment, and taking care of Dilara and her injured nephew (Suhaib) full time. On top of all this, she has been spending every spare moment fundraising for her daughters, doing everything in her power to meet their survival needs as prices in Gaza skyrocket.
Neither Umm Sadeem nor her husband in Gaza have any source of income. Recently, their young daughter Nema has been suffering from serious malnutrition, and she has fainted multiple times. Umm Sadeem is trapped far away from her daughters, forced to watch them starve as food becomes even more expensive and scarce. Multiple times, her family’s tent has been destroyed, and Umm Sadeem has had to fundraise for a new tent. The two children are completely reliant on this fundraiser for their survival needs - food, water, medicine, and shelter.
Umm Sadeem has chronic health issues of her own, and she struggles to eat and sleep while her children are in danger. Words cannot convey the pain of a mother forcibly separated from her children, unable to hold them or keep them safe. This fundraiser is currently her only means of taking care of her family, and it is urgent that she continues to receive our support.
Umm Sadeem also wants to collect enough for evacuation fees to get her daughters out of Gaza when the crossing opens again. This is extremely difficult when the price of daily survival in Gaza is so high, and will require a significant influx in donations.
Thank you so much to everyone who has supported this fundraiser over the past year. Your donations have enabled Umm Sadeem to keep her family alive, and she urgently needs your continued support as the situation becomes even more dire.
