We're Asking for Help—Something We Never Imagined We'd Have to Do
Hi everyone,
This is one of the hardest messages we’ve ever had to write. Reaching out like this isn’t easy, but we’ve come to a point where we can’t do it alone anymore. Jay and I have been doing everything we can to stay afloat, but we’re in a tough spot and need the support of our community to get through it.
Jay has been searching for a job for over a year. He’s poured his heart into every application—updating his resume, writing countless cover letters, and showing up for interviews with hope and determination. Just this month, he had over 10 interviews, including one that went through three rounds—only to be met with silence. It’s been discouraging and emotionally draining.
When Jay first moved to Arizona, he had a great job and we were optimistic about our future. We rented a home in Gilbert with a plan: Jay would cover rent while I focused on paying down debt. But six months in, he was laid off. His severance and unemployment helped for a while, but those resources have long since run out.
Since then, I’ve been doing everything I can—working full-time, applying to jobs on Jay’s behalf, and picking up side gigs when possible. But with only one car and a broken A/C, even delivery work has become nearly impossible in the Arizona heat. We’ve drained our savings, maxed out credit cards, taken a loan from my 401(k), sold personal belongings, and even donated plasma. And now, we’re at a point where we don’t have enough to cover rent.
We’ve tried everything we can think of, and asking for help is our last resort. But we’re not giving up. We’re still applying, still hoping—but we need a little help to make it through this moment.
If you’re able to donate, we would be deeply grateful. Every bit helps—whether it’s for rent, groceries, or car repairs so I can keep working. And if you can’t donate, sharing this message would mean the world to us.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for being part of our support system.
With love and gratitude,
Rachel
