Emergency Support for Will and Leah — Eaton Fire Impact

Donation protected
Will Potter and Leah Schiros are the kind of friends who would drop everything to help you. Now, they need our support.

While their rental home miraculously survived the devastating Eaton Fire in Altadena, they're facing enormous challenges in its aftermath. Their beloved neighborhood was hit hard — they're now one of the only houses left standing on their street, surrounded by the heartbreaking loss of their neighbors' homes.

Anyone who's visited Will and Leah knows their home has always been a warm, welcoming space for friends and family. Leah painstakingly landscaped the expansive front and back yards — planting flowers, trees, and a vegetable garden. Will converted the freestanding garage space to be his prop workshop.

Now, they're faced with finding a new place to live for at least the next six weeks because Altadena will be uninhabitable until clean up crews can remove toxic debris in the area. They will need to replace many of their belongings due to smoke damage. They will also likely need professional smoke remediation to make their home safely livable again.

Making matters more complicated, their landlord lost her primary home in the fire, which means Will and Leah will probably need to permanently relocate from the home they hoped to live in for many years to come by March.

Without renter's insurance, they're looking at covering all these expenses on their own — during what should be a joyful time as they plan their upcoming summer wedding.

We're hoping to raise money to help this amazing couple:

  • Support them as they think through rebuilding their lives and home
  • Replace tools, gear, and other work supplies destroyed in the garage workshop
  • Cover potential displacement and moving expenses if needed
  • Safety PPE as they spend the next 6-8 weeks coming back and forth to clean and recover
  • Misc. expenses associated with displacement
  • Bring some peace of mind during this overwhelming time
  • Support their efforts to contribute and be part of the community rebuilding

We’ve known Will and Leah for years — they met at our wedding after Will officiated our vows — and they're the first to step up when anyone needs help. They're facing this challenge with incredible grace, and they shouldn't have to do it alone.

Any contribution, whether it's $5 or $500, will help this wonderful couple get back on their feet and focus on their upcoming wedding and future together.

Thank you for joining us in supporting these dear friends. Your kindness means the world. -- Michelle Pellizzon and Ethan Lipsitz, Highland Park Residents and friends of the Schiros-Potters
