Emergency support for Street Based Youth

Hello, My name is Dominique Mckinney and I am the co founder and creator of the Street Youth Rise Up Campaign and Task force. A youth led campaign and task force focused on eliminating institutional violence faced by homeless, home free street based youth in Chicago. As the co founder of
SYRU my job is to provide leadership development , resources and programming that is inspired by and for street based youth. By empowering our members to take leadership of their own lives while empowering other street based youth to do the same. Street youth rise up has over 120 members not including those reached through our outreach program. 

Street Youth Rise Up is launching an emergency fundraiser to support street based , homeless and home free youth impacted by institutional violence during the Covid 19 pandemic. 

As we all know this global crisis has impacted each and every one of us. Some of us are fortunate enough to support ourselves and can stock up on food, supplies and medical needs. Some of us will struggleto access these basic needs. Street based youth are constantly hustling to survive and with the country on a shut down with states facing lock downs, “Shelter at Place”, curfews and possible Marshall law! Resources are limited to none and harder to access for our communities. 

Street based youth are resilient and are more than capable of expressing their needs. Our job is to answer and support them. 

SYRU wants to support our community during this pandemic by being able to provide emergency resources.  

Here is what we will do !

- We will provide basic need resources, such as; grocers, medical supplies, cleaning supplies and self care kits.


-How will we support!

Food - we will purchase gift cards  for purchasing  and fund an account for  delivery hot food items. ( this will support those greatly impacted by homelessness and or  who are home free)
- We will Fund an account using a  grocery delivery service such as “Instacart” for those who have access to a kitchen and or a place to store food!

Medical supplies and Self care kits will be made to be delivered and dropped off as needed. 
Including:
-  Cold/Flu Medicine
- Tylenol
- cough drops
- Ice packs and heat packs
- Emergen C packs
 as well as self care items

-Supply packs  for cleaning and personal care and some baby items.

-Emergency Stipends to help with phone bills, transportation, and anything else that’s needed!


please note:  The funds we raise will be directly deposited into Street Youth Rise Up bank
account and be used to provide emergency support to  homeless, street based youth throughout Chicago. Providing medical and safety packets, food support, self care packets and emergency assistance with phone bills, housing, and any other support that is needed. We plan to get these funds to our community. All Packets are being personally delivered to those in our community. We will use DoorDash, grub-hub and Instacart as well as gift cards to local vendors for food support. Emergency assistance is provided through Venmo, cash app and all bill support is provided online. We will also use some funds to support those  in our community that are currently incarcerated by
