One of our incredible student workers finds herself facing an unimaginably tough path, and as her mentors in her campus job, we’ve organized this campaign to ask for your help in supporting her through this crisis.
Jessie is a first-generation college student at TU, a senior Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Bioinformatics major. She has thrived in this intense program while juggling her job working as a student academic advisor in our office and being the caregiver for her mother during a long illness.
Today she shared the news with us that her mother, who was recently placed on life support, has just been pronounced brain dead. As her father died 10 years ago, she and her older brother, both supporting themselves while in university, are now facing the prospect of life on their own. Jessie is working with the University for any support they can provide through their emergency fund, but we know she has far greater need than they will be able to provide, and she also has immediate pressing needs for rent payment and food.
We would be so grateful for anything you’re able to contribute to provide basic needs for Jessie and her brother while they navigate this new terrain.
